Born and raised in the Midwest,
I remember long, hot summer
days with hours of absolutely
nothing to do. Freedom to roam
far and wide and fill my days with exploration and imagination allowed
the discovery of small treasures.
Dark green, wiggling tadpoles in a
local stream turned to thumbnail-sized
frogs overnight, or the long, narrow, winding pathway through a corn field
that went from friendly to frightening depending on the cast of shadows.
In these small things I began to seek
the symmetry of color, texture,
symbolism and light surrounding me.

Travel is an important part of my life. My senses come alive when I plunge into the sights, sounds and smells of another culture. Rarely have I been without a camera
while traveling and currently use a 35mm Nikon single-lens-reflex camera. To date,
I've not been tempted to digitize the world I find through the camera lens.

The work currently displayed within this website is the result of my trip to China in
the late summer of 2004. Traveling to Beijing, Shanghai and the stunning tea-growing region of Hang Zhou, I found an earthy richness and depth in myriad shades of red,
gold, green, blue and black that seemed to pull me into them. Architecture too, in China was astounding; stunningly detailed and clearly the creation of master craftsmen who built the elaborately decorated structures to last through the centuries.
